POETRY WITH PASSION AND PERFORMANCE PROJECT

Overall Aims
- To instill a love of poetry in children aged 8-13yrs
- To encourage students to not only read poetry, but to have fun creating and performing their own poems.
- To provide scaffolds so all students can experience success in their poetry writing.
- To flatten classroom walls by providing opportunities
for students to communicate with students in other schools/ countries.
- To develop digital citizenship skills by fostering global collaboration and co-creation between students.
- To showcase students' multimedia presentations to a wide audience.
​- To engage with a real poet and celebrate student's success.

Overview of Project

​Targeted Age Range / Grades: 8-13yr olds / Grades 3,4,5,6
Student Groupings: Students will be placed into groups of 8-12 students across 3-4 schools
Duration of Project: 8 weeks (minimum 1 session per week, but preferably 2)
Dates: Starts Monday 15th March 15
Digital Tools/ Programs: Edmodo, Google Docs, Zoom Tchr meetings) Zoom (classroom - optional), own fav program for creating multimedia (eg. iMovie, Photostory, Powerpoint, Sway, MovieMaker, Powtoon, Google slides, Voicethread, etc) 
Presentation of multimedia poetry: This Weebly website!
​Prerequisites: Teachers and students should be registered with Edmodo (free) and be familiar with communicating this way                                                                                                                             before the project begins. See Resources - Tech Support 
                                                                                                                   Students should have some knowledge of Digital Citizenship                                                                                                                           - Edmodo Code of Conduct

8Teachers, please note: 
1. It is your choice to complete 1 or 2 lessons a week over the course of the 8 weeks. The first column is compulsory and all participants will be expected to undertake all steps. If you have more time and/or an additional person who could work with you on this project then please complete column 2 as well.
2. The scaffolded poems for students to complete will be forwarded through Edmodo groups.

Share some 'performance' poems from Resource folder. Students encouraged to perform poems as indiv/groups/class

Week 1

​Write an Acrostic name poem and post.

Read replies and comment.
Complete the 1 line poem and post to group.
Create own class poem based on examples
above or own ideas.

Open Google doc, add own ideas to 1st  poem and share.
If time complete 2nd poem and share.
Every week practice your poem - aiming for a whole class performance and a recording.
Week 4
Open Google doc and add own ideas to 3rd poem.  Share.

iscuss rubric with students.
Share some poems in the Google Doc and discuss.
Consider writing new versions of these too!
 
Week 5
Work with a partner from own school.
​Decide on preferred poetry format (1st, 2nd or 3rd poem). Co-create one new poem using some of one's own previously created lines and some lines from others (outside own school).
Share some poems in the Google Doc and discuss.
Consider writing new versions of these too!
Week 6
Continue working with partner from own school.
​Use multimedia of own choice to present the poem that was co-created last week. 
Use class session to complete multimedia poems, if additional time needed. Otherwise as above.
Week 7
Complete new multimedia poem.
​Teacher to upload to this website. (assistance provided)
Use class session to complete multimedia poems, if additional time needed. Otherwise as above.
Week 8

Poetry Café Celebration
View poems uploaded to website and vote on favourite poems.
​Zoom/Skype classroom connections, if possible

Record class poem as a movie and upload to website. (assistance provided, if needed)
View student work and use rubric to assess own student work.
